Description
Come and visit the Balata garden located in the heart of the rain forest in Martinique!
The Garden is animated by the creativeness and visions of its creator. He has been caring and healing the plants for more than 50 years! He now shares this dream with everyone who walks through this magic world. It is a peaceful visit that can be shared in familly, with friends or parents.
Once upon the year 1982, Jean-Philippe Thoze, horticulturist, landscape designer and poet comes back to Martinique. He goes back on the trail of his childhood, in the Creole house of his grandparents. From then was born his passion for botanicals which will lead him worldwide.
You will be able to see more than 3000 different kind of trees and flowers. Moreover you will be able to see a lot of beautiful humming birds! A walk to the top of a Botanical Garden unique in all caribbean: realize an amazing experience, a discovery of the garden seen trees through a walk on bridges suspended to giant mahoganys.
Seen from above, the Balata Garden is even more beautiful ! The panoramas on the Bay of Fort de France and the peaks of Carbet are to immortalize on your camera. This attraction is totally secured by nets. This allows you to walk around without taking a stand and to enjoy unforgettable moments … At more than 15 meters high, this incredible visit is done in peace on bridges accessible to all (from 8 years).

Our Favorite Event on Martinique
You can take Bus #25 to Balata’s Garden, it picks up close to the cemetery in Fort de France. Also go to Mosaic for round trip tickets, near the cemetery too. This botanical garden is lovely! Fun, too. We particularly enjoyed the tree walk.

A MUST SEE in Martinique
Amazing gardens that’s worth the detour! So lush! The little restaurant is very good too! A nice way to start or finish your visit.

Well worth the drive and admission price
We toured the Garden today, and it was beautiful! It is well laid out, and easy to get around if you are mobile. We arrived at 11:15 and departed around 1:30.
The pathways are well maintained, but steep in areas. Portions of the Garden are wheel chair accessible, but the pathways are not wide enough to accommodate them. If you need a walker, I would not recommend it.
We were in a rental car, so I can’t comment on taxi service.

Great stop
One of the must sees if you visit this island. We did not do the standard “tour” we kind of went on our own and rented a taxi. It is a must see, unbelievable beauty everywhere you look. While it was a bit crowded if was still nice to see the garden. You do need to spend some time here, the price is a bit steep for just a walk through like we did. If you really walk a dive into the flora and fauna it would be worth it.

Really great but get there at opening !
This is probably the shortest I will dver write.
This place is really matching the info you will find.
It truly is wonderful and an absolute must see when in Martinique.
Do not miss the feeding stations, which are hung up just upon entering the park, to attract (plenty of) colibris (humming birds) .
Very important : you really need to get there at opening time !!! 09h00 in our case, to have a relaxed and enjoyable visit.
Upon exiting around 10h45, the place really started to be really too crowded, especially with several buses dropping cruise passengers in large numbers.
Go early !!!

Worth a visit
Fantastic gardens with a suspended walkway high into the trees. The gardens are immaculate and provide stunning views out to sea. Just in case there is the occasional shower of rain whilst walking round, we had 2 by the way, there are covered areas to sit and enjoy the gardens.

Beautiful botanical garden worth a visit.
The best part of the beautiful gardens are the suspended rope walking bridges. In loved being high up in the trees seeing the marvellous garden from another perspective.

Beautiful botanical garden
A very beautiful botanical garden, located in a beautiful environment. Although the entrance price is a little expensive, it is one of the most interesting visits to do near Fort de France.
