Description
Embark on an unforgettable adventure in the heart of Martinique’s tropical rainforest with the Couleuvre Waterfall Hike. This beautiful trail is a must for nature lovers and travelers looking to escape into the wild.
Located in northwestern Martinique, this approximately 3-kilometer round-trip hike takes you through a lush and protected natural environment. Along the way, you’ll also discover fascinating traces of the island’s history.
A Hike Combining Nature and Heritage
The trail begins at Anse Couleuvre, near the ruins of a former sugar plantation. Old cocoa trees still grow around the site, offering a glimpse into Martinique’s colonial past.
The trail quickly leads deeper into a dense and humid tropical rainforest. Lush vegetation surrounds you throughout the hike. Heliconias, ferns, vines, and towering trees create a truly tropical setting.
As you walk, the trail follows the river for much of the route. The gentle sound of flowing water accompanies your steps, while tropical birds fill the forest with their songs.
A Spectacular Waterfall Deep in the Rainforest
The trail is well marked and suitable for people in good physical condition. However, some sections can become slippery, especially after rainfall. Good hiking shoes are therefore recommended.
After approximately 1.5 hours of hiking, you finally reach Couleuvre Waterfall. Rising nearly 120 meters, this impressive waterfall emerges from a lush, green rock face.
Take a moment to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and admire the scenery. The waterfall also provides the perfect setting for a refreshing break and memorable photos surrounded by tropical nature.
Discover a Wilder Side of Martinique
This hike is ideal for active families and travelers who love tropical landscapes. It also offers a wonderful opportunity to discover a wilder side of Martinique, away from the island’s busiest tourist attractions.
Along the way, your guide can also introduce you to the importance of rainforest conservation and the incredible biodiversity of tropical ecosystems.
Combining wild nature, local heritage, and adventure, the Couleuvre Waterfall Hike offers an authentic way to experience the untouched beauty of northern Martinique.
