Description
Discover Northern Martinique: Rainforest, History and Black Sand Beaches
Discover the highlights of Northern Martinique on a full-day guided tour combining tropical rainforest, historic landmarks, and breathtaking coastal scenery. From the iconic Balata Church to the historic town of Saint-Pierre, this excursion offers the perfect introduction to the island’s natural and cultural heritage.
Your tour begins at the cruise terminal or in downtown Fort-de-France, where your guide welcomes you aboard a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle.
First, travel along the scenic Route de la Trace, one of Martinique’s most beautiful roads. Surrounded by lush rainforest, you’ll stop at the famous Balata Church, a smaller replica of Paris’ Sacré-Cœur Basilica. Its hilltop location offers spectacular views over the tropical landscape.
Next, continue to the Alma River, where you can cool your feet in the refreshing water while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the rainforest.
Then, take a short walk to the beautiful Saut du Gendarme Waterfall. Nestled in the heart of the forest, this natural site is one of the island’s hidden gems.
After leaving the rainforest, head to Saint-Pierre, once known as the “Little Paris of the Caribbean.” Your guide shares the dramatic story of the 1902 eruption of Mount Pelée, which destroyed the town. As you explore the historic ruins, you’ll also enjoy impressive views of Martinique’s famous volcano.
Finally, relax at Le Carbet Beach, where black volcanic sand meets the clear Caribbean Sea. Take time to swim, unwind, or simply admire the spectacular scenery before returning to Fort-de-France along the island’s beautiful Caribbean coastline.

Would highly recommend!
Martinique is a beautiful island. Our tour guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and friendly. We loved the fact that there were only 18 other tourists. Made the tour more personal. Our driver was a master at handling the winding Martinique roads.

We did a tour with Beyond the beach on March 25th, 2023.
From picking us up to arriving back at the ship it was a great time! There were only 5 of us in the group, which made the trip very personal. We heard a lot of interesting things and were provided with information about the island. 😊
The itinerary was followed as stated. At each point we had enough time for sightseeing, taking photos and/or swimming.
We were treated to drinks (water, juice, rum punch) and cake.
From A to Z everything was perfect!
We can only recommend this tour to everyone!
Many greetings and a big thank you to the team.
